Can I apply for a new passport/ID-card at the Consulate?

As from January 2010, the Embassy of Sweden in Bern is the only office in Switzerland where you can submit a passport/ID application.

Do I need to go to Bern to collect my new passport/ID card?

No, you can notify the Embassy that you prefer to collect your passport/ID card at the Consulate in Zurich, or at any other Swedish Consulate.

When I apply for a passport do I have to come in person?

Yes, you must apply in person. This is due to the fact that the passports are now biometric, the Embassy will take photo, fingerprints and signatures, which is part of the application process.

Do I need to make an appointment at the Embassy or can I just drop by?

You need to make an appointment online on the Svenska Ambassaden i Bern Embassy Homepage. Please notice that the Embassy has a large number of applicants. Therefore it is advisable to make an appointment well in advance before your passport/ID card expires.
